River Kearns

Candidate for Tennyson

Hi there, I'm River and I'm your candidate for Tennyson in the Council elections.

I've loved connecting with our local community since moving to Brisbane to work and study. I'm 21 years old and currently doing Justice Studies while also working in film production. I'm a proud member of the LGBTIQA+ community and I have a passion for social justice and environmental sustainability.

I also understand the impact of medical complications and ableism due to my own experience of vision impairment and neurodiversity. I hope to use this insight to advocate for more inclusive and appropriate services for our community.

Brisbane City Council's lack of community consultation on local issues, and their hostile actions against those in poverty is impacting many. Instead, imagine beautifully built, sustainably designed rent-capped and affordable homes and community housing.

Let's end Council putting property developers before the community and ensure that all development is sustainable and community led, not profit driven. Let's see more accessible streets that cater not only for cars, but for all modes of transport including separated bike lanes and bikeways. And let's see open lawn space rejuvenated with native plants and bushland for greater biodiversity.

Join me to work towards a better future for all of us in Meanjin/Brisbane.
