It’s time to take violence against women and gender inequality seriously.

On average, one woman in Australia is killed each week by a current or former partner. Forty per cent of women have experienced workplace harassment, and girls as young as 12 have reported sexual harassment in public.

One in three women experience abuse in their lifetime, while First Nations women, women from culturally diverse backgrounds, women in regional areas, older women, LGBTIQ women, and women with a disability, are even more likely to experience violence.

Governments at all levels must prioritise this issue with funding and leadership, and everyone must drive the cultural change we need to end the epidemic of men’s violence against women in our communities.

All women have the right to live free from harassment, violence and abuse, have agency to make decisions, and have the financial and housing security needed to live a good life.
