Hi, I’m Benita - your Greens candidate for Division 6 in Moreton Bay.
I've made our beautiful Redcliffe Peninsula my home for more than 10 years, living in Margate and enjoying our seaside lifestyle while growing my little family. I've spent most of this time working as a pharmacist in the Moreton Bay area, caring for those in our community including through the COVID-19 pandemic response, and specialising in pain management and safety strategies. Over my career, I've dedicated myself to finding evidence-based and cost-effective solutions to complex problems, and have been recognised as a leader and innovator in my profession.
Now, I'm eager to channel these skills into serving the residents of Clontarf, Woody Point, Margate, Redcliffe, and Kippa Ring as your Councillor.
I've seen first-hand the impact local council can have on our lifestyle and our wellbeing - the opportunity to be your local Councillor is a meaningful way for me to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the people and wildlife in our community.
I know that locals know the issues that affect them, and also have a diversity of perspectives and great ideas about possible solutions - our community is hungry for consultation, collaboration and action! This includes focusing on important issues like development and planning, housing availability and homelessness, and the protection and care of local wildlife (especially our iconic local koalas!) and biodiversity.
History tells us that local government can be especially prone to corporate influence when it comes to decisions around funding, zoning and development, but I'm pleased to say that as your Greens local government candidate who doesn’t accept corporate donations, I'm here to serve only the residents of Division 6. I'm thrilled at the opportunity to meet and learn more about our community through this campaign, and to better understand how I can best help bring us closer to the future we imagine for our Peninsula and Moreton Bay.
