Hi, I’m Ann, your Greens candidate for The Gap.
I have lived in Brisbane for the last ten years after previously living down south. I chose to make Queensland my home after experiencing the friendliness of the people and the relaxed lifestyle. I am the proud mother of a son and daughter who are both primary school teachers.
My formal qualifications are a Bachelor of Education, a Graduate Diploma of Human Nutrition and a Diploma of Counselling. I have worked as a high school teacher of physical education and mathematics, as a professional representative for a multinational food company and as a development officer for the Australian Football League. In addition, I have spent many years working voluntarily in community sport and in the classroom as a visiting teacher.
After seeing record temperatures and fires burning in Australia and around the world, I made the decision to stand for the Greens. We must protect our natural environment and local bushland, and mitigate against climate change risks like flooding and fires. We need change in Brisbane City Council in order to mitigate the effects of climate change, starting with the council declaring a climate emergency. Shamefully, Brisbane is the only Australian capital city council that has voted against declaring a climate emergency.
I want to see genuine resident consultation on the decisions that affect our community. The Gap Ward needs a local representative who will advocate for free and frequent public transport, to assist in solving traffic congestion. We need youth recreational facilities, and positive, progressive solutions to address the housing affordability crisis.
The Greens will bring a fresh, solutions-focused approach to representing The Gap on Council. An approach that values social equality, nonviolence, environmental sustainability and grassroots democracy. I am a strong supporter of women’s rights and believe in compassion towards others and advocating for those who feel unheard.
While politicians and their corporate donors design laws to suit their interests, people are struggling with the rising cost of living, mortgage and rent increases, and a lack of consultation on local developments. Unlike the major parties, the Greens don’t take corporate donations, so I’d only be beholden to our community and will always fight for you.
At recent elections, many people have been switching to vote for the Greens in our area, so it's clear there is a desire for change. I am excited to work with you to create a happy and healthy community. I’m looking forward to learning more about your concerns and how I can best represent you, so please get in touch.
